Shamans are sometimes considered healers or doctors, but really they are people who deal with the tears and holes we create in the net of life, the damage that we all cause in our search for survival… Shamans deal with the problems that arise when we forget the relationship that exists between us and the other world that feeds us, or when, for whatever reason, we don’t feed the other world in return.                   – Martín Prechtel

Shamanic journeying is such a beautiful, ancient, ecstatic and also practical way of opening our hearts, realizing spiritual growth and wisdom, solving Middle World (physical realm) problems, opening communication with and creating deep appreciation for non-human beings…. There are so many benefits and meaningful applications of shamanic journeying that the full range of our work could well rest within our own personal shamanic practice.

And then for some, a day will come when we are called to expand our range of skills to even deeper levels – to the advanced practices and understandings that can bring healing to others.

The Windhorse Circle Shamanic Apprenticeship strives to serve those students who have heard the call. Within the safe container of Windhorse Circle inspirited land, students are given the opportunity for

  • Growth as a skillful shamanic practitioner
  • Growth as a compassionate circle member in right relationship to self and all beings
  • Growth as a Hollow Bone through addressing one’s shadow with bravery, skills, kind authenticity and vulnerability

The container of a Windhorse Circle Apprenticeship holds multiple layers of learning. The categories of Inner, Outer and Secret from Tibetan Buddhism can be applied beautifully to an apprenticeship experience. Here are a few examples of each:

  • OUTER refers to developing skillful means with multiple shamanic interventions, deepening relationships with guides, building a daily practice, understanding shamanic ethics
  • INNER refers to Hollow Bone (i.e. shadow) work, deepening self-awareness, noticing and working with what activates internally, developing good energetic hygiene (including healthy boundaries), practicing shamanic ethics
  • SECRET refers to initiation (death of the old life and stepping into a new one). The apprenticeship can support you to this liminal portal, but the compassionate spirits (in relationship with you) are the ones who remove the veil and bring you into a bigger, numinous view and experience

Skills we will learn

  • Power Animal retrieval
  • Divination, including Seidr (plus a Saturday evening program)
  • Psychopomp (helping trapped souls to the post-death realms – 3 days)
  • Soul Retrieval: Upper and Lower World
  • Soul Retrieval: Middle World
  • Curse Unraveling (3 days)
  • Medicine for the Earth and Nature Spirits (plus a Saturday evening program)
  • Distance Healing, time for questions, project shares, closing our circle (plus a Saturday evening program)

Additionally

  • Two 2-hour Zoom Circles for questions and practice (12/05/26 and 3/20/27)
  • All eight weekends will have time for questions and practice
  • There will be homework outside of teaching weekends

Who might benefit from this apprenticeship

  • Those feeling called to become a shamanic practitioner
  • Those who work in the field of ketamine-assisted therapy who want to be able to understand the nature of non-ordinary reality, be able to create a strong container held by their compassionate guides for their clients and have access to their own compassionate spirit council to assist clients in the moment if needed
  • Psychotherapists, particularly Internal Family Systems therapists, seeking a way of helping when a part isn’t a part of your client (the “oh my goodness, – what’s that,” moment)
  • Any practitioners of Internal Family Systems who want to go further with the practice
  • Those who already work with other healing modalities and want to synthesize their current work with shamanic understanding and interventions
  • Those who want to learn within a community where the aspiration is to be open-hearted and led by our Wisdom Minds (Self-led)
  • Those who want to shift their view of clients as discrete, integrated individuals to the truth of multiplicity, interrelatedness and various fields of family and cultural influence the client holds in addition to the client’s True Self
  • Those feeling called to broaden their view and understanding of healing

The Windhorse Circle Shamanic Apprenticeship requires completing an application. Admission will be weighted by

  • Personal Hollow Bone (shadow) work
  • Demonstration of how you believe you’ll use this knowledge, view and practice on a regular basis in either shamanic healing work and/or weaving your learning into an already established modality, profession and/or lifestyle
  • Depth of relationship(s) with your compassionate guide(s)
  • Those who have not yet taken a Windhorse Circle Shamanic Apprenticeship
